CAA Volleyball Weekly Awards – Nov. 15

RICHMOND, Va. (Nov. 15, 2021) – The Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) has announced the final volleyball weekly awards of the 2021 fall season. Delaware’s Lani Mason earned CAA Offensive Player of the Week honors, while Rachel Hess claimed CAA Defensive Player of the Week accolades. Hofstra’s Beatriz Alves was named CAA Rookie of the Week.
 
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Lani Mason, Delaware
Junior | Outside Hitter | Chester, Va. / Matoaca
Mason dominated as the Blue Hens defeated William & Mary in a pair of straight-set matches to conclude the regular season. The junior outside hitter averaged 4.67 kills per set on a .478 hitting percentage along with 1.17 service aces per set and 3.33 digs per set over the weekend. In match one, Mason finished with a match-high 19 kills and 11 digs to record her eighth double-double this season. She hit .452 for the match and added a pair of service aces in the effort. In the weekend finale, Mason contributed nine kills on a season-high .533 hitting percentage while recording nine digs and five service aces.
 
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Rachel Hess, Towson
Junior | Libero | Breiningsville, Pa. / Allentown Central Catholic
Hess spearheaded the defensive effort that limited Northeastern to a combined .118 hitting percentage in a pair of wins, securing Towson the CAA regular season title. The junior libero racked up 35 digs (5.00 per set) and posted a .938 reception percentage throughout the weekend. In Sunday’s top-seed clinching sweep, Hess finished with a match-high 23 digs, averaging 7.67 per set. The performance came after pacing Towson with 14 digs and adding six assists on Saturday.   
 
ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Beatriz Alves, Hofstra
Freshman | Setter | São José dos Campos, Brazil / Colégio Campos Salles
Alves concluded her first regular season with a strong effort in a weekend split with James Madison. The freshman setter racked up 81 assists (13.50 per set) and 14 digs (2.33 per set) in the weekend’s competition. In Sunday’s regular season finale, Alves tallied 42 assists, 10 digs and two blocks as the Pride won in straight sets. It marked her seventh double-double this season. She also contributed 39 assists, four digs and two kills despite a setback in the first match of the weekend.
