Hofstra's Second-Half Surge Advances Pride To NCAA Second Round

HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. (Nov. 18, 2021) – For the second time in less than a week, the Hofstra men’s soccer team scored three second-half goals to keep its season alive, as a wild stretch of three goals in four minutes lifted the Pride past Lipscomb, 4-2, in Thursday’s NCAA First Round at the Hofstra Soccer Stadium.
Hofstra trailed 2-1 at the half before CAA Championship Most Outstanding Player
Matthew Vowinkel set up the tying and go-ahead goals, scored by
Hendrik Hebbeker in the 50
th minute and
Ryan Carmichael in the 52
nd. Vowinkel would tally the exclamation point in the 54
th minute off an assist from Hebbeker for the final 4-2 margin.
Pierce Infuso also scored for Hofstra, which held an 8-2 advantage in shots on goal in its 17
th win of the year. Lipscomb took seven of the game’s 10 corners against the side that entered the game leading the nation in corner kicks per game.
Hofstra will travel to Central Pennsylvania for its Second Round match, a clash with No. 12 national seed Penn State on Sunday at 5 p.m. Broadcast information will be listed on CAASports.com when available.
