RICHMOND, Va. (November 6, 2021) – CAA Football Commissioner Joe D’Antonio announced on Saturday that James Madison University has withdrawn its membership in CAA Football, effective June 30, 2022, as it pursues a move to the Football Bowl Subdivision.

“JMU has been extremely successful during its time as a member of CAA Football and has brought great recognition to the conference. We understand their desire to move to the FBS level and wish them well in that pursuit,” D’Antonio said.

“CAA Football has built a reputation as one of the strongest and deepest conferences in FCS and we are fortunate to have outstanding institutions that are committed to excellence. We will be vigilant in making decisions that are best for our membership going forward and are excited about the future.”

JMU will still be eligible to compete for the CAA Football regular-season championship in 2021 and earn the conference’s automatic bid to the NCAA FCS playoffs.
