ELON, N.C. (Nov. 7, 2021) – Hofstra rebounded from an early deficit with goals by
Lucy Shepherd and
Miri Taylor to capture its seventh Colonial Athletic Association title with a 2-1 victory in the CAA Women’s Soccer Championship presented by Primis on Sunday at Rudd Field on the campus of Elon University.
Lucy Porter was named CAA Championship Most Outstanding Player after helping the Pride to its fourth conference title in the last five years.
Simon Riddiough won his sixth CAA title as head coach of his alma mater.
Northeastern provided early pressure that paid off in the 18
th minute, as a free kick by
Faith Rosenblatt was sent into the box and headed by
Alexis Legowski to Kaefer, who sent it past Kuzmich for the game’s first goal.
The Pride found the equalizer seven minutes later, as a throw-in from
Cailey Welch was redirected in the box by
Georgia Brown over to Shepherd, who beat Friel for her second goal of the Championship.

The Huskies would not register another first-half shot after Kaefer’s goal, as the Pride held an 8-2 advantage in shots through an even 45 minutes on the scoreboard.
Hofstra struck for the game-winner in the 59
th minute off the head of Taylor. Shepherd played the ball back to
Jordan Littleboy, who sent it ahead to Taylor on the run for the deciding goal in the title game.
Northeastern had a crack at a potential tying goal three minutes later, but the play was whistled dead after a Huskies player committed a foul on the Hofstra goalkeeper before the shot.
The Pride outshot the Huskies 13-4 for the game and has a 66-6 margin in shot attempts over its last three contests.
Hofstra, which has earned the CAA’s automatic qualifier, will find out its NCAA Championship first round destination – which the Pride hopes to be a home game on Long Island – on Monday at 4:30 p.m.
