CAA Volleyball Weekly Awards – Nov. 8

RICHMOND, Va. (Nov. 8, 2021) – The Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) announced its weekly volleyball awards for the penultimate weekend of the 2021 fall season. Towson’s Nina Cajic was named CAA Offensive Player of the Week, Elon’s Jenn Krzeminski earned CAA Defensive Player of the Week honors and Tynley Smeltzer of Charleston received CAA Rookie of the Week accolades.
 
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Nina Cajic, Towson
Sophomore | Opposite Hitter | Subotica, Serbia / Politehnicka Skola Subotica
Cajic helped Towson force a weekend split at James Madison in a battle of the first-place teams. The sophomore opposite hitter was extremely efficient, racking up 28 kills (4.00 per set) on a .453 hitting percentage. On Sunday, Cajic landed a career-high 19 kills on a red hot .567 hitting percentage in Towson’s four-set victory. She added three digs and two crucial blocks in the effort. In the series opener, Cajic posted a team-high nine kills, hitting .304 despite the setback.
 
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Jenn Krzeminski, Elon
Junior | Middle Blocker | Furlong, Pa. / Central Bucks East
Krzeminski led Elon at the net in a pair of straight-set victories over Hofstra to conclude the regular season. She totaled a team-high 10 blocks (1.67 per set) as the Phoenix held Hofstra to a .107 combined hitting percentage throughout the weekend. Additionally, Krzeminski contributed 11 kills (1.83 per set) on a .588 hitting percentage to round out her performance. Krzeminski leads the CAA with 110 total blocks and ranks second in the conference averaging 1.21 blocks per set.
 
ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Tynley Smeltzer, Charleston
Freshman | Libero | Savannah, Ga. / Calvary Day School
Smeltzer had a stellar weekend in the libero jersey, helping Charleston to a weekend split with Northeastern. The Savannah, Ga. native recorded 42 digs and averaged a league-high 6.00 digs per set. Smeltzer opened the weekend with a season-high 24 digs as Charleston held Northeastern to a .039 hitting percentage in a four-set victory. She capped the weekend with a match-high 18 digs in the Cougars’ setback.
