#CAAHoops MBB Recap - Dec. 31 - William & Mary, Delaware Win by One on New Year's Eve

RICHMOND, Va. (Dec. 31, 2021) – William & Mary and Delaware closed out the 2021 Colonial Athletic Association men’s basketball calendar with one-point victories Friday, as the Tribe won on another wild last-second sequence, while the Blue Hens secured a road victory on a last-second steal.
 
Five CAA games have been played so far in conference action with three decided by one point and another by two points.
 
William & Mary 71, Northeastern 70 | Box Score
Chris Doherty’s putback with 19.1 seconds remaining moved Northeastern back in front, but Connor Kochera’s made free throw after being fouled in the final second secured a 2-0 start to CAA play for William & Mary. Northeastern outscored William & Mary 21-4 in a run that spanned both halves to give the Huskies a double-digit advantage early in the second half, but the Tribe would respond with a 22-0 run to lead by eight. The game featured seven ties and eight lead changes with both teams leading and tied in the final two seconds. Julian Lewis paced William & Mary with 14 points to lead five players in double figures, while Jahmyl Telfort scored a game-high 21 points for Northeastern.


 
Delaware 67, Charleston 66 | Box Score
Kevin Anderson stole the ball away with one second remaining to help Delaware hold on for a one-point win and its first victory of CAA play. Jameer Nelson Jr. scored 15 of his game-high 22 points before halftime and Delaware led by two at the break before opening the second half on a 10-2 run. Charleston would get as close as within one in the second half but could not fully erase the deficit. John Meeks led the Cougars with 17 points off the bench and Osinachi Smart recorded a double-double of 11 points and 10 rebounds.
