CAA Volleyball Weekly Awards – Feb. 22

RICHMOND, Va. (Feb. 22, 2021) – Northeastern’s Erica Staunton and Kayla Martin received Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week honors. Towson’s Nina Cajic was named CAA Rookie of the Week. 
 
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Erica Staunton, Northeastern
Sophomore | Outside Hitter | Orange Park, Ill. / Carl Sandburg HS
Staunton helped Northeastern pick up their first and second wins of the season, defeating Rhode Island on consecutive days. Over the weekend, Staunton led the Huskies' attack with 4.38 kills per set on a combined hitting percentage of .304. In Friday’s 3-1 victory, she recorded a team-high 17 kills and added 12 digs for her second double-double of the season. She followed that performance by swinging .319 on the way to a match-high 18 kills while recording eight digs and three blocks in the Huskies' 3-1 win on Saturday. 
 
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Kayla Martin, Northeastern
Sophomore | Libero | Prosper, Texas / Prosper HS
Martin anchored the Northeastern defense with 5.63 digs per set in back-to-back wins over Rhode Island last weekend. In the first match, Martin dug out 20 attacks and contributed three assists and a service ace in the Huskies' first win of the season (3-1). She improved on that performance the following day recording 25 digs, five assists and a pair of service aces in Northeastern’s second consecutive win.
 
ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Nina Cajic, Towson
Freshman | Outside Hitter | Subotica, Serbia / Politehnicka Skola Subotica
In her collegiate debut, Cajic contributed to Towson’s season-opening victory over Stony Brook. The freshman was second on the team with 12 kills, while posting a hitting percentage of .323. She also had six digs, two service aces and an assist as the Tigers defeated the Seawolves in straight sets.
