CAA Women's Soccer Weekly Awards - March 15
RICHMOND, Va. (March 15, 2021) – UNCW senior forward Morgan Nanni and Hofstra senior forward Lucy Porter have been named the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Women’s Soccer Offensive Co-Players of the Week and William & Mary sophomore goalkeeper Zoe Doughty is the CAA Defensive Player of the Week, while Towson freshman midfielder Demi Pierre has earned CAA Rookie of the Week accolades.
OFFENSIVE CO-PLAYERs OF THE WEEK:
Morgan Nanni, UNCW
Senior | Forward | Raleigh, N.C./Wakefield
Morgan Nanni scored two goals as the Seahawks opened CAA play with a 3-1 victory at Elon on Saturday night. She gave UNCW a 1-0 lead with a goal in the 18th minute before adding a penalty kick goal in the 47th minute to extend the lead to 2-0. Nanni, who has three goals this season, moved into a tie for 13th place on the Seahawks’ all-time list with 13 career goals.
Lucy Porter, Hofstra
Senior | Midfielder | Birmingham, England/King Edward Camp Hill School
Lucy Porter lifted Hofstra to a 2-1 double overtime victory over Boston College on Sunday evening. She scored both of Hofstra’s goals including the go-ahead goal in regulation and the game-winning goal in double overtime. Porter now leads the team with six goals and 14 points on the season. She moved into fourth in Hofstra history in career goals (37).
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK:
Zoe Doughty, William & Mary
Sophomore | Goalkeeper | Woodbridge, Va./Woodbridge
Zoe Doughty earned her first collegiate shutout in the Tribe’s scoreless draw at Charleston, finishing with a career-high eight saves against the Cougars. She made two saves in the final 20 seconds over the second OT, including a 1-v-1 stop of Olivia Freitas’s shot. Doughty has not allowed a goal in 175 minutes of action this season and has 11 saves.
ROOKIE OF THE WEEK:
Demi Pierre, Towson
Freshman | Midfield | Gavle, Sweden/Vasaskolan Gavle
Demi Pierre assisted on both goals in the Tigers’ 2-0 shutout victory over James Madison. Pierre has started all four games for Towson.
