RICHMOND, Va. (March 22, 2021) – CAA Football has announced its weekly award winners for Week 5 of the spring 2021 season. Maine sophomore quarterback Joe Fagnano earned Offensive Player of the Week honors and Rhode Island senior safety Coby Tippett received Defensive Player of the Week accolades. Rhode Island junior punter Davey Schaum-Bartocci was chosen as the Special Teams Player of the Week and William & Mary freshman running back Malachi Imoh was named Rookie of the Week.

CAA Football Offensive Player of the Week
Joe Fagnano, So, QB, Maine (Williamsport, Pa./Williamsport)

Fagnano completed 19-of-29 passes for 250 yards and four touchdowns and also ran for 24 yards and a TD in Maine’s 35-19 victory at Stony Brook. It was the second straight five TD performance for Fagnano, who threw all four scoring passes in the second half as the Black Bears rallied from a 13-7 deficit. The sophomore has now thrown 25 TD passes with only three interceptions over his last 10 games.

CAA Football Defensive Player of the Week
Coby Tippett, Sr., S, Rhode Island (Sharon, Mass./Cheshire Academy)

Tippett recorded two tackles, a tackle for loss, two interceptions and a pass breakup in Rhode Island’s 17-10 overtime triumph at UAlbany. The senior picked off a pass in URI territory in the second quarter and then had his second interception at the URI 19 with 21 seconds left in the fourth period, stopping a potential game-winning drive.

CAA Football Special Teams Player of the Week
Davey Schaum-Bartocci, Jr., P, Rhode Island (Penfield, N.Y./Webster Schroeder)

Schaum-Bartocci averaged 43.6 yards on nine punts and placed four of them inside the 20-yard line in Rhode Island’s overtime win at UAlbany. The junior had a career-long 61-yard punt in the second quarter that pinned the Great Danes at the 2-yard line and later led to a safety. Schaum-Bartocci is averaging 40.5 yards per punt for the season.

CAA Football Rookie of the Week
Malachi Imoh, Fr., RB, William & Mary (Winchester, Va./John Handley)

Imoh rushed for a career-high 137 yards and three touchdowns on only 10 carries to lead William & Mary past Elon, 31-10. The freshman broke loose for scoring runs of 65 and 38 yards in the first half to give the Tribe a 14-3 advantage and found the end zone from two yards out in the fourth period. Imoh also caught one pass for 10 yards.
