CAA Softball Weekly Awards – Mar. 23
RICHMOND, Va. (Mar. 23, 2021) – The Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) has named Hofstra’s Jaycee Ruberti as softball’s CAA Player of the Week. James Madison’s Alexis Burmundez received CAA Pitcher of the Week honors while Elon’s Mekayla Frazier was selected as the CAA Rookie of the Week.
PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Jaycee Ruberti, Hofstra

Ruberti led the Pride to a 5-0 week beating St. John’s in a midweek contest before sweeping a four-game set with UMass Lowell over the weekend. At the plate, Ruberti hit .500 recording a team-high nine hits while tallying nine RBIs and at least one in every game. On the bases, she scored four runs and was a perfect 5-for-5 on stolen bases. To begin the week, the centerfielder went 4-5 with four RBIs, two runs scored and two stolen bases in an 11-10 win over St. John’s. She then capped the week with a 1-3 performance that included a walk, run scored and two runs batted in during a 7-4 Pride victory over UMass Lowell. On the season, Ruberti leads Hofstra with 13 RBIs and ranks second on the team with 13 hits.
PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Alexis Bermudez, James Madison

Bermudez earned two of three wins for the Dukes in the circle during their weekend sweep of East Carolina. In 10.1 innings of work, the junior only gave up two earned runs on six hits while striking out five to post a 1.35 ERA. In her season debut, Bermudez picked up a win pitching 5.1 innings in the circle allowing 2 earned runs on six hits and striking out three as the Dukes bested East Carolina 6-3. Then in Sunday’s matchup, she entered during the second inning to collect her second win in as many days recording 5.0 innings of work only surrendering one hit while striking out a pair in a 7-1 victory for James Madison.
ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Mekayla Frazier, Elon

In five games this past week, Frazier recorded eight hits in 16 at-bats while scoring six runs, knocking in six more and stealing two bases. In Elon’s 6-4 win over UNC Greensboro, Frazier went 2-3 at the plate with an RBI and on the bases, she scored two runs and stole a pair. In the series finale versus the Spartans, Frazier did all she could getting three hits in five plate appearances and was just a home run shy of a cycle. She batted in three runs and scored one herself despite the Phoenix eventually falling 9-6. On the season, Frazier leads Elon with a .405 batting average and she also has three home runs, 10 RBIs and 12 runs scored to her credit.
