William & Mary Wins Three Events On Opening Night Of Women's Swimming Championship

CHAMPIONSHIP CENTRAL | RESULTS | HIGHLIGHTS 

CHRISTIANSBURG, Va. (March 29, 2021) – 
William & Mary swept two relays and claimed an individual title in the 500 freestyle in Day One competition at the 2021 Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Women’s Swimming & Diving Championship at the Christiansburg Athletic Center in Christiansburg, Virginia.

The swimming competition is being held separately this year due to CoVID-protocols. The diving events were held last weekend at the University of Delaware.
 
200-Yard Freestyle Relay
William & Mary got the championship off to a good start, winning the 200-yard freestyle relay for the fifth time in the past seven years. The team of Missy Cundiff, Katie Stevenson, Anna Kenna and Megan Bull posted a time of 1:31.37, to best James Madison by .29 and UNCW by 1.30.
 
500-Yard Freestyle
The Tribe picked up their second win of the championship in the second event as Elizabeth Intihar took the 500-yard freestyle title with a time of 4:48.00. She defeated defending champion Julianna Jones of James Madison, who posted a time of 4:48.55, and Mira Selling of Delaware, who swam 4:52.45.



200-Yard IM
Delaware earned its first individual title of the championship in the 200-yard individual medley. Audrey Duvall took the title with a time of 2:01.29, one-tenth of a second ahead of runner-up Cameron Gring of James Madison. Towson’s Katie Nunez was third at 2:03.54.

50-Yard Freestyle
UNCW’s Evan Arsenault took the 50-yard freestyle crown with a time of 22.37, falling just .07 shy of the CAA record. Arsenault, who was the defending CAA champion in the event, edged Missy Cundiff of William & Mary (22.50) and Lera Nasedkina of Drexel (22.96).

400-Yard Medley Relay
Day One ended with another William & Mary relay victory. The team of Kenna, Annie Tuttle, Maura Graff and Stevenson posted a time of 3:39.96 to give the Tribe a 400-yard medley relay title for the first time since 2016. James Madison finished second at 3:42.76 and Towson was third at 3:45.47.
