Hofstra senior Lucy Porter has been named a finalist for the 2020-21 women's soccer Senior CLASS award, it was announced this week.

A total of 10 women's soccer finalists were chosen by a selection committee from the list of 30 men's candidates and 30 women's candidates announced earlier in the season. Nationwide fan voting begins immediately to help select the winner, and fans are encouraged to vote on the Senior CLASS Award website through May 3. Fan votes will be combined with media and Division I head coaches' votes to determine the winner.

An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School®, the Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.

To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence: community, classroom, character and competition.

Porter has collected a number of other accolades as well as she was named the 2019 CAA Midfielder of the Year along with USC All-America, USC All-Region, and All-CAA honors, and more during her 2019 campaign.

She has continued to climb up the Hofstra record books during her storied career as her point total (91) is third in program history while her goal total (38) is fourth. Porter has tallied 18 points (7G, 4 A) during her senior season thus far, and leads the team in goals.

Porter is also an incredible student in the classroom, as she carries a 3.77 cumulative GPA as a Community Health major with minors in neuroscience and psychology. She was named to the USC Scholar All-America First Team in 2019, is a two-time Provost's List and Dean's List recipient and has been named to the CAA Commissioner's Academic Honor Roll in every possible semester.

Porter also spent time volunteering through Hofstra's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and has assisted with events such as National Girls and Women in Sports Day, One Million Acts of Good, Move-In Day, Pride and Plant, and more. She is also a Hofstra Health Ambassador where she promotes safety measures on campus in accordance with public health initiatives.

Since arriving at Hofstra, Porter has been an integral part of the program. She is a wonderfully balanced individual who values all aspects of being a student-athlete. Porter is respected by all of her teammates and was chosen as a team captain by her peers in 2018. Ever since, she has led by example. Porter makes everything look easy and is a born leader, comfortable and confident in all of her surroundings. She pushes her teammates to new levels in a positive and motivating manner which makes her stand out.

The Senior CLASS Award winners will be announced during the 2020 NCAA Men's and Women's College Cup® championships in May.
