RICHMOND, Va. (May 13, 2021) – James Madison’s Kendall Turner was selected the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Women’s Golfer of the Year by the league’s eight head coaches. Charleston’s Viktoria Hund was chosen as the CAA Rookie of the Year while James Madison head coach Tommy Baker was named the CAA Coach of the Year.

Turner was the medalist at the 2021 CAA Championship in April at the Grandover Resort’s East Course, the fifth Duke to take medalist honors at the CAA Championship. The redshirt freshman earned CAA Golfer of the Week accolades on March 10, when she tied for fourth at the River Landing Classic, setting the Dukes’ record for lowest 54-hole total, at 208. Turner, who recorded a pair of top-five finishes this season, joins Carol (Green) Robertson (2003, 2004) as JMU players to earn CAA Women’s Golfer of the Year honors.

Hund was runner-up at the 2021 CAA Women’s Golf Championship. The freshman led the Cougars in scoring this season, and had posted an average score of 74.43 heading into the NCAA Women’s Golf Championship regionals. Hund is the second Charleston player to earn CAA Rookie of the Year honors, joining Laura Fuenfstueck, who was honored in 2014.

Baker wins Coach of the Year honors after guiding James Madison to the 2021 CAA Women’s Golf Championship, the program’s fifth title and first since 2013. The Dukes overcame a 16-stroke deficit entering the final round and saw three players – Turner, Amelia Williams and Kate Owens – record top-five finishes. Baker earned CAA Coach of the Year honors for the first time in his tenure and is the first JMU head coach to take Coach of the Year honors since Paul Gooden in 2004 and 2005.

Joining Turner, Hund and Williams on the All-CAA First Team were sophomore Mallory Fobes of UNCW and freshman Kanokwan Ngamwong of Elon. Four of the five first team All-CAA honorees this year are freshmen or redshirt freshmen and all are in their first two years of competition.

The second team consists of freshman Oihana Etxezarreta of Delaware, sophomore Phu Khine of UNCW, senior Victoria Huskey of Charleston, senior Adel Vadkerti of Elon and junior Sarah Houle of William & Mary. Huskey was the CAA Player of the Year and a first team selection in 2019 and Khine was the CAA Rookie of the Year and first team selection in 2019. Vadkerti repeats as a second team member. Due to the COVID 19 pandemic, no awards were given in 2020.
