Seven Teams Set to Compete for CAA Women’s Rowing Championship Sunday
PENNSAUKEN, N.J. (May 14, 2021) – When the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Women’s Rowing Championships commence Sunday it will have been 728 days since the last CAA Rowing Championships. Last year’s competition was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The 2021 Championships are set for Sunday, May 16 returning to the Cooper River in Pennsauken, N.J. for the fourth straight season.
There will be no spectators allowed at this year's rowing championships due to local and state guidelines. However, full coverage of the CAA Rowing Championships will be streamed on FloSports (

The field looks a bit different this season Delaware, Drexel, Eastern Michigan, Northeastern and Villanova return while UCONN and the University of California San Diego are joining the competition this season. UCONN announced their induction to CAA Rowing after the 2019 season; however, the Huskies have not competed at the Championships due to the cancellation last year. UCSD joined the conference this season as the Tritons are making the leap from NCAA Division II competition to NCAA DI and are participating in their inaugural CAA Championships as well. The seven-team field is the largest at the CAA Championships since 2012.
The day begins at 10:20 a.m. with the Third Varsity Eight followed by the Varsity Four, Second Varsity Eight and concluding with the First Varsity Eight.
Northeastern enters the competition as the six-time defending champion and has won nine of the 11 CAA titles in the event’s history. The Huskies also enter the 2021 CAA Championships receiving votes in the latest CRCA Poll.
Northeastern is seeded first in the Varsity Eight race followed by Drexel, who won the race in 2019, Eastern Michigan, Villanova, Delaware, UCSD and UCONN. Northeastern’s First Varsity Eight ranks second in the NCAA Region 2 while Drexel’s First Varsity Eight ranks fifth in the region.
The Second Varsity Eight also has Northeastern and Drexel seeded first and second respectively. Villanova is third followed by Eastern Michigan, Delaware UCSD and UCONN. Northeastern’s Second Varsity Eight is also ranked second in the NCAA Region 2 while Drexel is fourth in the region.
In 2019, Northeastern narrowly defeated Drexel scoring 26 points to the Dragons’ 24. Eastern Michigan finished third with 19 points followed by Villanova with 15 points and Delaware with six points.
