RICHMOND, Va. (May 14, 2021) – James Madison senior defender
Tom Judge was named a First Team All-American by the United Soccer Coaches, while teammate redshirt senior goalkeeper
T.J. Bush was named to the third team, the organization announced.
JMU is one of nine teams to have multiple student-athletes earn All-America honors and is the lone Colonial Athletic Association team to have a spot on a team.
It is the first time since 2011 that a Duke has been named to a United Soccer Coaches All-America team, and Judge becomes the first JMU player since 1994 to be named to the organization’s First Team. It is also the first time since 1994 that a pair of Dukes were named United Soccer Coaches All-Americans in the same season.
Judge started and played in seven games for the Dukes, earning All-CAA First Team honors as he helped JMU win its third consecutive CAA title. A semifinalist for the MAC Hermann Trophy, he helped lead a backline that allowed only four goals on the season and posted six shutouts in nine games as JMU took the CAA South Division regular season title. One of the shutouts came against then-No.13 UNCW in a 2-0 win.
Bush started all nine games for JMU, earning CAA Defender of the Year and All-CAA First Team honors. The 80
th overall pick in the 2021 MLS SuperDraft made 30 saves and finished the year with a 0.42 goals against average. He posted five shutouts on the season, setting the program record for a career at 30. He currently is fourth in the nation in goals against average and third in save percentage at 0.882.
