Northeastern Claims Seventh Straight CAA Rowing Title

PENNSAUKEN, N.J. (May 16, 2021) – For the seventh straight season, the Northeastern women’s rowing team claimed the title at the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Rowing Championships on the Cooper River in Pennsauken, N.J.
Northeastern captured the title with 42 team points besting Drexel in second with 36 points. In a tie for third-place Delaware and Villanova each scored 23 points edging UC San Diego in fifth with 21 points. Eastern Michigan and UCONN rounded on the seven-team championship with 17 and six points respectively.
Northeastern reclaimed the title in the Varsity Eight race after Drexel beat them out in 2019. The Huskies captured the gold medal with a time of 6:35.10 defeating Drexel in second (6:39.33) and UC San Diego in third (6:45.62).
Northeastern rowed to their seventh consecutive gold medal in the Second Varsity Eight crossing the finish in 6:53.41. Drexel earned silver with a time of 6:55.40 while Villanova claimed bronze with a time of 6:56.42.
Northeastern claimed a victory in the Varsity Four marking the Huskies’ first win in the event since 2017. Northeastern posted a winning time of 7:42.13 to defeat Drexel in second (7:44.82) and Delaware in third (7:47.57).
Villanova took first-place in the non-scoring Third Varsity Eight earning a gold medal with a time of 7:07.31. Delaware finished second in the event with a time of 7:10.53 while Northeastern crossed the finish in third posting a time of 7:12.36.
Northeastern head coach Joe Wilhelm earned his conference-leading eighth CAA Coach of the Year awards after leading the Huskies to the program’s seventh consecutive CAA Rowing title and the Huskies’ 10
th overall.
