Charleston, UNCW Earn NCAA Men's Golf Regional Berths
RICHMOND, Va. (May 5, 2021) – Charleston and UNCW each received bids to compete in the 2021 NCAA Division I Men’s Golf Regionals May 17-19.
Charleston is the 12
th seed and will compete in the NCAA Stillwater Regional. The event will be played at the Tom Fazio-designed Karsten Creek Golf Club in Stillwater, Oklahoma and is hosted by Oklahoma State.
UNCW will compete in the NCAA Noblesville Regional and is the ninth seed. The three-day event will be played at the Jack Nicklaus-designed The Sagamore Club in Noblesville, Indiana and is hosted by Ball State. Charleston earned the Colonial Athletic Association’s automatic bid by winning the CAA Men’s Golf Championship and UNCW earned an at-large bid.
This marks the first time since 2010 that the CAA has received multiple bids to the regionals and the sixth time overall. In 2010, three CAA teams, UNCW, VCU and Towson all made NCAA regional play.
Charleston has made seven previous appearances in the NCAA regionals, most recently in 2017 at the Austin Regional. UNCW will be making their 10
th appearance in the NCAA regionals and third consecutive appearance. This will be the Seahawks’ third appearance as an at-large team.
Five teams and top individual not on an advancing team will advance from each of the six regional sites to the 2021 NCAA Division I Men’s Golf Championship, to be played May 28-June 2 at the Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Arizona.
