Alexander and Gordon Named to the WCWS All-Tournament Team
RICHMOND, Va. (June 10, 2021) – A pair of James Madison seniors, Odicci Alexander and Kate Gordon, were named to the Women’s College World Series (WCWS) All-Tournament team at conclusion of the event Thursday evening.
Alexander started all 10 games for James Madison throughout the NCAA Tournament. The senior went 6-3 and recorded a save in the circle. Alexander pitched 64.2 of a possible 74.0 innings for the Dukes, tallying 1,057 pitches during the postseason run. She recorded 66 strikeouts throughout the tournament to rank second among all players while accumulating a 3.03 ERA.
In Oklahoma City, the All-American lead James Madison to a pair of wins going 2-2 in four starts. Alexander picked up an 8.0 inning victory over No. 1 Oklahoma, in which she held the top offense in the nation to a season-low three runs and struck out nine Sooners. She followed the performance grinding out a win over No. 5 Oklahoma State by limiting the Cowgirls to just three hits and one run. In total, Alexander pitched 26.2 innings at the WCWS, picking up 18 strikeouts.
Gordon provided timely hitting throughout the NCAA Tournament and particularly during the WCWS. Four of Gordon’s six hits during the NCAA Tournament were home runs as the senior etched her name in the Colonial Athletic Association record books as the league’s career home run leader (71).
At the WCWS, Gordon hit .308 (4-for-13) with three home runs, four runs scored, three RBIs and a walk. No hit bigger than in the eighth inning of game one versus No. 1 Oklahoma. With the score tied at three Gordon, launched a solo home run to lift the Dukes to a 4-3 victory. The senior went yard in back-to-back games, recording another solo home run in game two against No.5 Oklahoma State. In the national semifinal, Gordon led off the game with her third home run of the tournament and her second against the Sooners.
