RICHMOND, Va. (July 28, 2021) – The Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) has unveiled its women’s basketball conference slate for the 2021-22 season.

The schedule returns to a traditional home-and-home, round-robin format featuring 18 conference games after last season was modified to accommodate the challenges associated with the COVID-19 pandemic.

Each institution will be paired with a travel partner as was the case in the previous two seasons. Teams will compete in a Friday/Sunday format featuring back-to-back games at home or on the road. During the two weeks in which a team faces their travel partner, both teams will have a bye on Friday before playing on Sunday.

Regular-season play begins Friday, December 31 and concludes Sunday, March 5. The 2022 CAA Women’s Basketball Championship presented by Primis is scheduled for March 9-12 at the Atlantic Union Bank Center on the campus of James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Va.

In 2020-21 the CAA ranked sixth among all Division I conferences in the final RPI calculations from WarrenNolan.com, trailing only the SEC, Big 12, Pac-12, ACC and Big Ten. Additionally, the league saw five teams finish in the top 160 in the NCAA NET Rankings: Delaware (No. 62), Drexel (No.102), James Madison (No.131), Towson (No. 154) and Elon (No.156).

Four of last year’s major award winners return this season, including the 2020-21 CAA Player of the Year, Jasmine Dickey of Delaware. Additionally, last season’s Defensive Player of the Year, Hannah Nihill, returns to Drexel as a graduate student while James Madison’s Peyton McDaniel is back on the court after taking home Rookie of the Year honors in 2020-21. Finally, Natasha Adair is back at the helm of the Blue Hens after earning her first CAA Coach of the Year award last season.
