OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Lucy Shepherd, Hofstra
Senior | Forward/Midfield | Worcestershire, England / Alcester Grammar
Shepherd scored three times and added an assist in Hofstra’s 5-1 season-opening win over defending America East champion Stony Brook. She assisted on the game’s first tally five minutes into the contest and would score Hofstra’s next three goals as the Pride pulled away in its 12
th-straight victory over its Long Island foe.
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Riley Melendez, Towson
Sophomore | Goalkeeper | Springfield, Va. / Lee
Melendez posted her fourth shutout in nine career starts as the Tigers opened the 2021 fall campaign with a 3-0 victory over Saint Joseph’s on Thursday. She followed that performance with seven saves – one off her career-high – to help earn a draw Sunday at Bucknell. The win and draw in the opening weekend is the best start for the Tigers since 2017.
ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Georgia Brown, Hofstra
Freshman | Midfield | Highworth, England / Oxford
Brown provided all the offense Hofstra would need Sunday, as she scored both goals in the Pride’s 2-0 win at Albany. The freshman midfielder headed a ball past the Albany keeper in the 29
th minute and added insurance in the 56
th as the Pride closed out a perfect weekend in head coach
Simon Riddiough’s 300
th game at the helm.
