CAA Volleyball Weekly Awards – Sept. 27

RICHMOND, Va. (Sept. 27, 2021) – Week five of Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) volleyball is in the books and with it comes CAA weekly awards. Elon’s Leah Daniel was named CAA Offensive Player of the Week, while Damla Tokman of Hofstra received CAA Defensive Player of the Week honors. Jaydyn Clemmer earned CAA Rookie of the Week accolades representing James Madison.
 
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Leah Daniel, Elon
Senior | Outside Hitter | Zionsville, Ind. / Zionsville HS
Daniel continued her red-hot start to conference play leading Elon to a pair of victories over Delaware. The senior outside hitter averaged 4.75 kills per set while swinging at a .345 clip over the weekend. She led both matches in kills, racking up 22 in a five-set victory on Saturday, with five digs and three blocks. On Sunday, Daniel tallied 16 kills on a .467 hitting percentage and had eight digs in a straight-sets win. She has now reached double-figure kills in seven straight matches, and she continues to lead the CAA in kills per set (4.27). Daniel’s effort helped Elon improve to 4-0 in the CAA, its best start to conference play in the program's Division I history.
 
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Damla Tokman, Hofstra
Sophomore | Middle Blocker | Balikesir, Turkey / Okyanus Kolejeri
Tokman was a force to be reckoned with at the net, totaling 21 blocks in a pair of matches against Northeastern. Despite a five-set defeat on Saturday, Tokman had a career-high 11 blocks while also adding nine kills. Then in a five-set victory on Sunday, she posted another 10 blocks, becoming the first player to record back-to-back performances of ten or more blocks this season. Overall, Tokman averaged 2.10 blocks per set and 1.20 kills per set over the weekend to help Hofstra split with Northeastern.
 
ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Jaydyn Clemmer, James Madison
Freshman | Defensive Specialist | Lexington, Va. / Rockbridge County HS
Clemmer pitched a solid effort defensively in a weekend split for the Dukes with Charleston. The freshman totaled 29 digs to average 3.22 per set over the two matches. Clemmer was tied for the team lead in digs both matches, recording 15 on Saturday followed by 14 in the finale. Clemmer has now recorded double-digit digs in three straight contests and has four in total this season.
