RICHMOND, Va. (Jan. 29, 2022) – UNCW came back from down 15 to win its 11
th-straight game – matching a program record – and improved to 8-0 in Colonial Athletic Association play, while Towson used a 16-0 second half run for its seventh win of its conference schedule Saturday. William & Mary, Delaware, and Charleston
William & Mary 65, Elon 61 | Box Score
William & Mary opened the game with a 22-6 run and led by 11 at the half before holding off Elon and earning a split of the season series. The Phoenix pulled within two with 13 seconds remaining but the Tribe made a free throw and got a steal to seal the victory.
Ben Wight led William & Mary with 16 points and
Brandon Carroll added 10 points.
Darius Burford’s 20 points for Elon led all scorers.
Towson 66, Drexel 62 | Box Score
A 16-0 Towson run late in the second half helped the Tigers surge back and improve to 7-2 in CAA play. Towson trailed by as much as 14 and by 12 at the half but chipped away and got back within single digits before holding the Dragons off the board for over seven minutes.
Charles Thompson led Towson with a double-double of 23 points and 11 rebounds, while three other Tigers were in double figures.
Camren Wynter scored a team-high 20 points for Drexel.
UNCW 78, Hofstra 72 | Box Score
A 7-0 UNCW run in the closing minutes gave the Seahawks the upper hand as UNCW improved to 8-0 in the CAA and matched its program record with its 11
th-straight win. Hofstra opened the game with a 10-1 run and built a 15-point lead in the first half before UNCW whittled it down to six prior to the break. The Seahawks would even the score at 40 with the first six points out of halftime and jump in front for the first time on a
Mike Okauru three with 15:40 to play. There would be nine second-half lead changes with
Jaylen Fornes’ three giving the Seahawks the lead for good with 1:59 to go. Okauru led UNCW with 19 points;
Aaron Estrada scored 17 for Hofstra.
Delaware 85, James Madison 69 | Box Score
Ebby Asamoah scored 30 points and
Jyare Davis added 22 as Delaware led throughout to improve to 6-3 at the midway point of its conference schedule. The Blue Hens led by nine at the break, extended the advantage to 16, and used a 7-0 run late in the second half to create separation after JMU had pulled to within seven. The Blue Hens made 11 threes in the game with six from the hand of Asamoah.
Vado Morse led the Dukes with 19 points.
Charleston 81, Northeastern 63 | Box Score
Charleston pulled away after a two-point halftime lead and closed the game on a 19-5 run to win for the second time in its last three games.
John Meeks led all scorers with 22 points on 9-of-14 shooting and the Cougars executed at the line with a 15-for-16 showing on free throws.
Nikola Djogo scored a team-high 17 points for Northeastern.
