CAA Volleyball Weekly Awards – Oct. 17

RICHMOND, Va. (Oct. 17, 2022) – The Colonial Athletic Association has announced its weekly volleyball awards after reaching the mid-point in the conference schedule. Hofstra’s Beatriz Alves earned CAA Offensive Player of the Week accolades, while Charleston’s Emma Falk and Stony Brook’s Julia Patsos were named CAA Co-Defensive Players of the Week. In addition, Kali Moore of Stony Brook received CAA Rookie of the Week honors.
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Beatriz Alves, Hofstra
Sophomore | Setter | São José dos Campos, Brazil / Colégio Campos Salles
Alves helped Hofstra extend its winning streak to 10 matches with back-to-back double-doubles, averaging 10.86 assists per set and 3.71 digs per set in a pair of wins over UNCW. On Saturday, Alves tallied 45 assists, 12 digs, three kills, three service aces and two blocks in an all-around effort as the Pride won in four sets. On Sunday, Hofstra won in straight sets behind 31 assists and 14 digs from Alves, adding two service aces, two blocks and a kill in the victory. Alves has a team-high eight double-doubles this season and leads the CAA in assists per set (9.93).
CO-DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Emma Falk, Charleston
Senior | Middle Blocker | Niwot, Colo. / Niwot HS
Falk recorded a league-best 2.67 blocks per set to lead Charleston defensively in a 2-0 week for the Cougars. The senior middle blocker opened the weekend with a career-high 10 blocks in a straight-set victory over Northeastern, including six in the decisive third set. In the weekend finale, Falk tallied a match-high six blocks and added three kills to help Charleston secure the weekend sweep. Falk has at least five blocks in nine matches this season, including three straight.
CO-DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Julia Patsos, Stony Brook
Junior | Libero | Oakdale, N.Y. / Connetquot
Patsos paced the Stony Brook defense with 43 digs, 6.14 per set, over two matches this weekend. She recorded a .989 reception percentage and only made one error in 91 attempts. In Sunday’s win, Patsos tallied a career-high 30 digs to help Stony Brook top Delaware in five sets. On Saturday, she recorded a team-high 13 digs despite a setback to the Blue Hens. It marks four straight matches with at least 10 digs for the junior, who has reached double-figures 14 times this fall.
ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Kali Moore, Stony Brook
Freshman | Outside Hitter | Brooklyn, N.Y. / Park Slope Collegiate
Moore continued her impressive rookie campaign, averaging 3.75 kills per set and 3.81 digs per set, including her ninth double-double this year in the Seawolves’ victory. On Sunday, the freshman outside hitter posted 23 kills and 22 digs, both career-bests for the Brooklyn native, leading Stony Brook to a five-set win over Delaware. She also contributed seven kills, nine digs and two service aces in the series opener. Moore has reached double-digit kills in 11 matches this fall and leads all CAA first-year student-athletes in kills per set (3.14).
