STONY BROOK, N.Y. (Oct. 26, 2022) – Stony Brook joins the CAA from the America East after five straight winning seasons and back-to-back postseason appearances. Entering her second season as head coach of the Seawolves, Ashley Langford could not be happier about the road ahead for Stony Brook.

“When I first heard about the possibility of moving to the CAA I was elated. It’s been pure excitement for me to join this league. I think it’s a great league with really good players and coaches. Having been in the league before, it gives me an appreciation for how good it really is, and we are just really excited to be a part of the league and its success.”

Stony Brook’s pursuit of success will rely on a combination of returners and newcomers that make up the Seawolves roster. An experienced backcourt can go a long way in the development of a team, and Stony Brook is the beneficiary of returning its starting point guard and shooting guard from last season. Annie Warren is the team’s top returning scorer, averaging 12.0 points per game while adding 4.2 rebounds and 2.4 assists per game last season. She is joined by Gigi Gonzalez, who contributed 9.6 points and 3.9 assists per game a year ago. The duo earned preseason All-CAA honors, and Warren had this to say about her backcourt mate, “Playing with Gigi has been great. That’s my PG. It’s our fourth year playing together, so we have built great chemistry, which allows us both to be our best on the court together.”

Adding to the backcourt depth, will be one of the Seawolves' newcomers, graduate transfer Daishai Almond. After playing at Southern Miss last season, Almond joins Stony Brook as an all-around playmaker. In 2021-22, Almond averaged 8.3 points, 3.7 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 2.1 steals per game for the Golden Eagles.

Stony Brook’s non-conference schedule will provide tests early and often as the Seawolves open on the road against Syracuse on Nov. 7. Stony Brook will also play St. John’s, Penn and Bucknell on the road, in addition to hosting Columbia.
