BOSTON (Oct. 27, 2022) - After a run of eight out of nine seasons in the CAA Semifinals, the Northeastern men's basketball program found itself in unfamiliar territory last year.

A spate of injuries, some last-minute heartbreaks, and other challenges sent the Huskies to an Opening Round game in the nation's capital - in which Northeastern prevailed in overtime - before a bid to knock off top-seeded Towson in the Quarterfinals fell just short.

As the head coach with more CAA victories than all but one in the league's history, Bill Coen provided an honest recap of the Huskies' uncharacteristic season.

"It was a rough year and certainly not anything we're accustomed to," said Coen. "It was a Murphy's Law situation - anything that could go wrong did go wrong."

As the calendar turns to a new year, newcomers will be key to that return to success.

"We're going to rely on some youth," said Coen. "We have six freshmen and a transfer eligible. So far, they've put in the work to put us in position to be a competitive team."

Northeastern and Coen, who will enter the winter nine conference wins shy of passing Jim Larranaga's all-time league mark of 183, bring in among that new group Joe Pridgen, who was a double-digit scorer two seasons ago at UNCW. The returners on Huntington Ave. include former CAA Sixth Man of the Year and preseason All-CAA honoree Jahmyl Telfort along with preseason honorable mention selection Chris Doherty.

That mix of returning production and a jolt of new energy look to jump start Northeastern against an ambitious non-league slate that includes visits to Providence, Syracuse, Georgia Tech, Davidson, a Thanksgiving multi-team event in London. The historic Matthews Arena will also serve as home to 10 of the Huskies' 12 televised games throughout New England - more than any other mid-major in the region.

As Northeastern looks to return familiar ways, both new and familiar faces will be key to success.
