#CAAHoops MBB Recap – Dec. 29 – Offensive Eruptions Highlight First Multi-Game Day of Conference Play

RICHMOND, Va. (Dec. 29, 2022) – Three of Thursday’s four winning teams eclipsed 80 points and home teams went 3-1 in the first multi-game day of conference play in CAA Men’s Basketball.
Drexel 62, Elon 50
Amari Williams recorded his fifth double-double of the year and Drexel matched a season high with 11 made three pointers to win its CAA opener. Williams tallied 10 points, 14 rebounds, six assists, and four blocks for the Dragons, who attempted 31 of their 52 field goals from distance in a game they led for the final 22 minutes. Coletrane Washington, and
Luke House with double figure scoring efforts.
Sean Halloran and
Sam Sherry led Elon with 11 points each. Drexel has held its opponent under 60 points in all seven victories this season.
RV/RV Charleston 89, Hampton 61
Six Charleston players were in double figures and the Cougar bench scored 42 points in front of a sellout crowd at TD Arena as Charleston improved to 13-1.
Pat Robinson III led all scorers with 19 points, while
Ante Brzovic tallied 15 points in 14 minutes of action. Charleston scored 56 points in the first half on 20-of-27 (74.1%) shooting.
Marquis Godwin tallied a team-high 18 points for Hampton, which knocked down 10 threes in its league play debut in the CAA. Charleston is the second team in CAA history to begin a season 13-1, joining the 1985-86 Richmond team that opened the year 16-1.
Hofstra 87, Delaware 73
Aaron Estrada scored 18 of his 31 points in the first half as Hofstra built a 15-point halftime lead in a game in which it held the advantage from the first minute on.
Tyler Thomas notched the first nine points of the game and contributed 20 in total for the Pride, which improved to 8-6 on the year. Hofstra shot 59% for the contest and 63% in the second half on its way to its sixth 80-point effort of the season.
Jameer Nelson Jr. led Delaware with 22 points and
Jyáre Davis added 21 in the defeat. Estrada’s 30-point performance was his seventh in two seasons with Hofstra. The Pride improves to 14-8 in CAA openers with the victory and 4-1 in its last five.
Northeastern 88, North Carolina A&T 76
Jahmyl Telfort tallied 31 points and 20 in the first half as Northeastern held serve at home in its league opener. The Huskies held a 14-point halftime advantage but the Aggies stuck around in their first CAA game, shooting 54% in the second half and pulling to within three midway through the second half.
Chris Doherty sparked an 8-2 spurt for Northeastern with six straight points for the hosts to make the margin more comfortable as the Huskies closed out the victory to improve to 4-1 in their last five games.
Kam Woods led North Carolina A&T with 23 points. The 88 points were Northeastern’s most in a game since scoring 88 at James Madison on December 30, 2019.
