William & Mary Wins First CAA Women's Swimming & Diving Title Since 2017

DAY 4 MEET RESULTS

CHRISTIANSBURG, Va. (Feb. 19, 2022)
– William & Mary won its fourth Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Women’s Swimming and Diving Championship title Saturday evening at the Christiansburg Aquatic Center. It is the first CAA championship for the Tribe women since capturing back-to-back titles in 2016 and 2017.
 
William & Mary finished the four-day event with 663.5 points after claiming four individual golds in the 50 and 100 freestyles, 100 backstroke and 200 breaststroke, in addition to taking first in the 200 medley relay and 800 freestyle relay.
 
UNCW posted Its best finish since 2010 and was the runner up with 621 points, while Towson took third, accumulating 551.5 points. Drexel (535), Delaware (454) and Northeastern (424) rounded out the field.
 
Delaware’s Mira Selling was named the CAA Championship Most Outstanding Swimmer of the Meet after taking gold in the 200 individual medley, 200 freestyle and 200 butterfly. UNCW’s Courtney Klausen earned CAA Championship Most Outstanding Diver honors after sweeping the one and three-meter dive titles.
 
William & Mary’s Nate Kellogg was named CAA Women’s Swimming Coach of the Year for the second straight season after leading the Tribe to the Championship. UNCW's Beau Bunn collected CAA Diving Coach of the Year accolades after guiding Klausen to a pair of golds in the diving events.


 
1,650 Yard Freestyle
UNCW sophomore Brooke Knisely pulled away to take gold in the 1,650 freestyle, becoming the first Seahawk to win the event in 15 years. Knisley’s winning time was 16:14.31, followed by Drexel’s Maddie Riley in second (16:46.61) and Towson’s Karlee Carminati in third (16:48.62).
 
200 Yard Backstroke
Drexel freshman Federica Nocera won the women’s 200 backstroke (1:56.56), marking the fifth time in the past six years the Dragons have claimed gold in the event. Northeastern’s Bailey Smith placed second (1:58.08), while Anna Kenna of William & Mary took third (1:58.67).
 
100 Yard Freestyle
In the women’s 100 freestyle, Katie Stevenson of William & Mary edged out a pair of Drexel teammates, who tied for second. Stevenson’s winning time was 49.89, while Lera Nasedkina and Chelsea Gravereaux finished in 50.18.
 
200 Yard Breaststroke
Annie Tuttle of William & Mary defended her title in the women’s 200 breaststroke, taking gold in a time of 2:14.44. Drexel’s Megan Sicinski took silver, finishing in 2:15.68 and Delaware’s Mania Tasakou claimed bronze, touching in a time of 2:17.64.  
 
200 Yard Butterfly
Mira Selling of Delaware claimed her third gold medal of the 2022 CAA Championship, winning the 200 Butterfly in a time of 2:00.00. Selling becomes the second-ever Blue Hen to win the event and the first since 2005. UNCW’s Victoria Cunningham touched in second (2:02.57) and Samantha Casolo of Towson took third (2:03.13) to round out the podium.
 
1-Meter Diving
Courtney Klausen defended her title on the one-meter board, sweeping the diving events at the 2022 CAA Championship after winning gold on the three-meter board on Thursday. Klausen tallied 276.40 points followed by her teammate Tatum Church in second with 265.85 points. Northeastern's Erin Murphy was third with 265.30 points.
 
400 Yard Freestyle Relay
In a thrilling final race of the 2022 CAA Championship, Drexel claimed gold in the 400 freestyle relay. The team of Lera Nasedkina, Victoria Palochik, Paige Powell and Chelsea Gravereaux touched in a time of 3:21.64, edging William & Mary in second, who finished in 3:21.89. Delaware claimed third with a time of 3:22.82.
