PHILADELPHIA, Pa. (Mar. 11, 2022)
– The first team All-CAA duo of Ty Battle and Jasmine Dickey combined for 45 of the Blue Hens’ 61 points to lift second-seeded Delaware over seventh-seeded William & Mary 61-35 in the quarterfinals of the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Women’s Basketball Championship presented by Primis.
 
Delaware improves to 22-7 on the year, advancing to the CAA Semifinals where they await the winner of tonight’s matchup between No. 3 Towson and No. 6 Northeastern. William & Mary finished the season 10-20 after the seatback. 
 
Dickey led the way with 29 points and 10 rebounds for her fifth double-double in the past six games. Battle also recorded a double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds, marking her 21st of the season. 
 
After a defensive battle in the first half, the Blue Hens pulled away in the second. Delaware outscored William & Mary 18-4 through the first 5:30 of the fourth, including an 8-0 run to open the period. It pushed the Blue Hen lead to 53-30 after entering the quarter with a nine-point advantage. Delaware went on to end the game on a 6-0 run, outscoring the Tribe 26-9 over the final quarter.
 
In the third, Kate Sramac pulled William within two at the 4:36 mark in the period before Delaware rallied off five straight points to claim a 31-23 lead with 1:48 remaining. The Blue Hens pushed the lead to 35-26, with Tyi Skinner capping the period with a pull-up jumper off a Dickey steal.
 
Points were hard to come by in the first as neither team shot above 30.0% in the period. Tied at six all midway through the quarter, Delaware scored back-to-back buckets giving the Blue Hens a slight advantage. At the 1:54 mark, Riley Casey knocked down a three, cutting the William & Mary deficit to 12-11. On the ensuing possession, Battle scored a second-chance layup to put Delaware ahead 14-11, a lead it would take into the second.
 
The defense continued to be at a premium in the second. The teams combined for just 15 points, with Delaware outscoring William & Mary 8-7. The teams traded baskets to open the quarter before the Blue Hens scored six straight to push their lead to 22-13 with 3:51 left in the half. The Tribe scored the final five in the period, including a Casey three with 53 seconds remaining to make the score 22-18 at the break.
 
Casey scored 15 points to pace William & Mary, while Sydney Wagner chipped in seven in the effort.
 
Delaware forced William & Mary into 21 turnovers, capitalizing with 22 points compared to just four points for the Tribe off turnovers.
