WASHINGTON, D.C. (March 6, 2022) –
Behind a double-double from CAA Rookie of the Year Jyare Davis, fifth-seeded Delaware held off #4 Drexel, 66-56, in the quarterfinals of the 2022 CAA Men’s Basketball Championship presented by Jersey Mike’s on Sunday afternoon at the Entertainment & Sports Arena.

The Blue Hens (20-12) advance to the CAA Tournament semifinals for the third time in the past four years and will face top-seeded Towson at 6 p.m. on Monday evening. Drexel closed the season with a 15-14 record.

Davis tallied team-highs of 17 points and 10 rebounds to record his third double-double of the season. Andrew Carr contributed 13 points and seven boards for Delaware and Jameer Nelson, Jr. added 11 points.

Drexel got a tremendous effort from All-CAA guard Camren Wynter, who poured in a game-high 28 points on 12-of-20 field goal shooting. Coletrane Washington chipped in nine points and Melik Martin grabbed a team-best 10 rebounds for the Dragons.

A late 7-2 run allowed Delaware to claim a 27-16 halftime advantage and the Blue Hens continued the momentum out of the locker room. Carr and Davis combined for the team’s first 11 points of the second half to give UD its largest lead, 38-23, with 16:10 to go.

Drexel responded with seven straight points from Wynter and a Mate Okros trey to cut the deficit to 38-33. Delaware pushed the gap back to 10 on a Nelson, Jr. three-point play, but Wynter tallied seven of Drexel’s next nine points, capped by a layup that brought the Dragons within 45-42 at the 9:34 mark.

It was still a three-point contest with just over five minutes remaining when Delaware got a 3-pointer from Kevin Anderson and a 3-point play from Davis to go ahead 57-48 with 3:28 on the clock. Davis completed another 3-point play at the 2:18 mark that extended the Blue Hens’ lead to 12 and Drexel never got closer than six the rest of the way.

Delaware shot 47.3% from the floor for the game, while Drexel made just 37.9% of its shots, including 4-of-23 from 3-point range.
