CAA Men's and Women's Tennis Weekly Awards - March 9

RICHMOND, Va. (March 9, 2022) – The CAA announced its weekly award winners in men’s and women’s tennis on Wednesday. James Madison junior Holden Koons and the Drexel doubles team of senior Djordje Janackovic and senior Gustav Wogen earned men’s honors. On the women’s side, James Madison junior Kylie Moulin and William & Mary senior Mila Saric were honored along with the Delaware doubles team of grad student Dominika Sujova and freshman Alina Vasilenko.
 
CAA Men’s Tennis Player of the Week
Holden Koons, Jr., James Madison (York, Pa.)

Koons spearheaded a dominant performance in singles to help JMU rally past in-state foe Richmond, 6-1. Playing at the No. 1 slot, the junior battled past Richmond’s John Walsh 7-6 (11-9), 6-2 to give the Dukes a 3-1 advantage after dropping the doubles point. Koons fended off two set points in the tiebreaker and improved his record to 8-1 on the season.

CAA Men’s Tennis Doubles Team of the Week
Djordje Janackovic, Sr., Drexel (Belgrade, Serbia)
Gustav Wogen, Sr., Drexel (Stockholm, Sweden)
 
Janackovic and Wogen clinched the doubles point for Drexel in its match against Navy. Competing at the No. 2 position, the duo got past the Midshipmen’s Finn Garner and Jack McBride, 7-5, to give Drexel a 1-0 lead. Navy was able to rebound for a 4-2 win as Drexel dropped to 6-2 on the season.

CAA Women’s Tennis Co-Player of the Week
Kylie Moulin, Jr., James Madison (Lithia, Fla.)

Moulin posted a 2-0 mark at No. 2 singles to help lead JMU to road wins over Marshall (5-2) and #62 Michigan State (4-1). The junior rolled past Marshall’s Madi Ballow, 6-1, 6-0, and topped Michigan State’s Maja Pietrowicz, 6-4, 6-1, to contribute to the upset of the Spartans. Moulin is riding a seven-match winning streak and improved to 8-1 in singles this season.

CAA Women’s Tennis Co-Player of the Week
Mila Saric, Sr., William & Mary (Los Cristianos-Arona, Tenerife, Spain)

Saric went 2-0 at No. 1 singles, including her second victory this season over a nationally ranked opponent, in William & Mary’s matches against Liberty and #26 Iowa State last week. The senior opened her weekend by beating Liberty’s Alexandra Almborg, 6-2, 6-2. Saric then knocked off 51st-ranked Thasaporn Naklo of Iowa State, 1-6, 6-4, 6-3. Saric is 16-4 overall and 6-2 at No. 1 singles.

CAA Women’s Tennis Double Team of the Week
Dominika Sujova, Gr. Delaware (Topolcany, Slovakia)
Alina Vasilenko, Fr., Delaware (Moscow, Russia)
 
Sujova and Vasilenko went 2-0 at No. 2 doubles to help No. 74 Delaware earn the doubles point during road victories over Duquesne (4-0) and West Virginia (4-3) last week. The Blue Hens’ tandem topped Duquesne’s Daniela Latoni and Blanca Benet Garcia, 6-3, and then clinched what proved to the deciding point vs. WVU with a 6-3 triumph over Kendall Kovick and Michaela Kucharova.
