HOPEWELL, N.J. (Feb. 23, 2022) – The Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) women’s basketball Player of the Year, Jasmine Dickey of Delaware, has been named a finalist for the Becky Hammon Mid-Major Player of the Year Award presented by Her Hoop Stats on Wednesday morning.
Dickey is one of five finalists, joined by Kierstan Bell (FGCU), Dyaisha Fair (Buffalo), Shaylee Gonzales (Gonzaga) and Abby Meyers (Princeton).
The five finalists come from five institutions, representing five conferences. Florida Gulf Coast University’s Kierstan Bell won the award in 2021 after Ciara Duffy of South Dakota was the inaugural winner during the 2020 season.
Dickey ranks third in the NCAA, averaging 25.0 points per game, and is fifth in total points (674). The senior guard/forward ranks third in the CAA, grabbing 9.7 rebounds per game, and has recorded 15 double-doubles this season, ranking 19th in the nation. Dickey produced one of the most impressive stat lines of the season, becoming the first player with 52 points and 18 rebounds in a game since 2010. The Baltimore, Md. native had previously established a career-high of 48 points earlier this season and she is the only player in NCAA DI Men’s and Women’s basketball to record more than 40 and 50 points in a game this season.
Award Eligibility & Schedule
To be eligible for this award, players must compete in one of the 26 conferences deemed to be “mid-major.” The following conferences are considered high-major for the purposes of this award, and thus ineligible: ACC, Big 12, Big East, Big Ten, Pac-12, and SEC. In October, 25 players were named to the preseason watch list. The 15-player midseason watch list was announced in January, and the 10 semifinalists were announced in February. The winner will be announced around the Final Four. The list is fluid and players may play their way on or off the list over the course of the season.
