SOUTHPORT, N.C. (April 14, 2022) –
The 2022 Colonial Athletic Association Women’s Golf Championship begins Friday with first-round competition at the Reserve Club at St. James on the coast of North Carolina.

St. James will host eight CAA teams with seven competing for the team championship and all in contention for individual medalist honors with both titles earning participants automatic qualifiers to NCAA Championships. Teams will play 54 holes on the 5,998-yard, par-72 Nicklaus design course with the first competitors scheduled to tee off Friday and Saturday at 8:30 a.m. and Sunday at 8 a.m.

Charleston enters the Championship as the CAA’s highest-ranked team in the top 60 nationally with three golfers – Viktoria Hund, Emma Schimpf, and Mary Kathryn Talledo – ranked in the top 250 nationally as individuals. All three are underclassmen who have earned CAA Golfer of the Week accolades this season.

James Madison’s entrants will be eligible for individual medalist honors and the accompanying individual AQ to an NCAA Regional. JMU, which won the team title in 2021, returns individual medalist Kendall Turner and three other players – Amelia Williams, Kate Owens, and Carly Lyvers – who finished in the top 11.

UNCW makes a long-awaited return to Championship play after the cancellation of the 2020 tournament and the Seahawks missing the 2021 Championship due to CoVID-19 protocols. The Seahawks won the 2019 Championship on the same course as this year’s event with Phu Khine earning medalist honors.

Delaware finished third a year ago at Grandover with Oihana Etxezarreta earning a top-10 result. Etxezarreta earned medalist honors at March’s Kingsmill Intercollegiate to help the Blue Hens to a team title in Williamsburg, marking the second-consecutive year for Etxezarreta as medalist and the Blue Hens as team champions at the event.

Elon looks to improve upon a fourth-place result at last year’s Championship, as the Phoenix shot the second-best final round in the tournament field in 2021. The Phoenix has finished second in three tournaments in 2021-22 with Apple Ngamwong tying for medalist honors at the Chris Banister Golf Classic in October.

William & Mary received a top-10 result from Sarah Houle at last spring’s Championship and the Tribe senior looks to contribute again in a return to St. James, where she carded a top-20 finish in 2019. The Tribe won the Elon Invitational in February with Houle collecting medalist honors.

Towson will be led by seniors Julia Calomiris and Jordan Cornelius in their final CAA Championship. Cornelius finished third at St. James in 2019 and holds the second-best scoring average in program history. The Tigers finished second at East Carolina in September with Cornelius placing second and Calomiris and Odette Font Garcia tying for fifth.

Hofstra closed out the spring with a win in a dual match against La Salle on Long Island. Savannah Weyrauch captured the final CAA Golfer of the Week honor by finishing first in the event, while Cynthia Zhao placed second. Weyrauch was Hofstra’s top finisher at the 2021 Championship.
