CAA Track & Field Weekly Awards – April 26

RICHMOND, Va. (Apr. 26, 2022) – The Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) has announced Towson’s Crystal Johnson as the CAA Track Athlete of the Week and Dominique Biron of Northeastern as the CAA Field Athlete of the Week after another record-setting week on the women’s side. On the men’s side, Bryan Keller of Northeastern earned CAA Track Runner of the Week, and William & Mary’s Chris Arias claimed CAA Field Athlete of the Week following personal-best performances.
WOMEN’S TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Crystal Johnson, Towson

Johnson set a new Towson program record in the 200m dash at the Virginia Challenge, clocking a time of 23.75. The time was good enough for third in the competition and is the top time in the CAA this season. In addition, Johnson improved her league-leading time in the 100m dash, running a season-best 11.63. Both her 100m and 200m times are ranked in the top 100 of the NCAA East Region.
WOMEN’S FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Dominque Biron, Northeastern

For the second time this season, Biron broke her program record in the heptathlon, accumulating a personal-best score of 5,473 points at the Virginia Challenge. The junior multi finished second among collegiate competitors after posting top marks in the high jump (1.70m), shot put (11.61m), javelin (37.17m) and 800m (2:18.96), as well as setting a PR in the 100m hurdles (14.29) of the heptathlon. Additionally, Biron improves her league-leading mark, and while sitting atop the CAA her performance ranks 10th in the NCAA East Region and 31st in the country.
MEN’S TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Bryan Keller, Northeastern

Keller established the conference’s top time in the 1500m, recording a personal-best time of 3:44.61. He earned an 11th place finish in a competitive field at the Virginia Challenge. His performance is the fourth-best time in Northeastern program history and cracks the top 100 in the NCAA East Region.

Chris Arias, William & Mary
Redshirt Freshman | Throws | Red Bank, N.J. / Christian Brothers Academy
Arias threw a personal record of 68.35m (224-03) in the javelin, extending his conference-best mark this season. The throw placed him sixth overall at the Virginia Challenge and is the third-best mark all-time in William & Mary program history. The performance ranks 21st in the NCAA East Region, and it is the 31st best mark in the NCAA this season.
Women’s Notes:
Charleston – Rhian Purves recorded a personal-best 2:14.13 in the 800m at the UofSC Open. The time is the fastest by a Cougar in seven years and ranks third all-time in the Charleston record book …
Delaware – Two Blue Hens established new program records at the Virginia Challenge. Chioma Njoku recorded a mark of 57.28m (187-11) in the hammer throw and Susanna Weir clocked a time of 16:27.68 in the 5000m. Weir’s time is the fastest in the conference this season, while Njoku’s mark ranks second in the CAA …
Elon – Mariah Ahm and Leandra Lorenz established league-leading marks in the 10,000m and 1500m, respectively. At the Virginia Challenge, Ahm opened up in the 10,000m, finishing fifth in a time of 34:07.87, while Lorenz clocked a personal-best 4:19.73 in the 1500m …
Hofstra – Morgan Serkes won the 1500m at the Hopkins/Loyola Invitational, winning the event in a season-best time of 4:39.72 …
James Madison – Two Dukes set personal-records in the heptathlon at the Virginia Challenge. Bethany Biggi posted a score of 4,694 points to take fourth, and Erin Babashak tallied 4,481 points to place sixth. The duo’s marks sit second and fourth, respectively, in the CAA this season …
UNCW – Nasiah Ferguson established a Seahawk freshman record in the 400m at the Virginia Challenge, recording a person-best time of 55.92. The time ranks sixth in the conference this season …
Northeastern – Abigail Klinge recorded a PR in the discus at the Jay Carisella Coaches Invitational. Her mark of 44.45m (145-10) placed second in the competition and is the sixth-best in Northeastern program history …
Towson – Fatimah Owens had a personal-best throw of 48.10m (157-10) in the discus at the Virginia Challenge. She finished third in the event, and the mark ranks second in the conference this spring …
William & Mary – Mary Gregory broke the Tribe program record in the 400m and was a part of the program’s record-breaking 4x400m relay team at the Virginia Challenge. Gregory clocked 54.81 in the 400m, while the Tribe relay team established a league-leading mark with a time of 3:40.84.

Hofstra – Nayan Chatterjee won the 100m at the Hofstra Sunrise Invitational with a personal-best 12.15 …
UNCW – Josh Parks earned a pair of top-five finishes at the Virginia Challenge. Parks finished fourth in the 110m high hurdles with his fastest wind-legal time this season of 13.97. Additionally, he was third in the 400m hurdles, finishing in 52.54 …
Northeastern – Alexander Korczynski ran a season-best 8:48.26 at the Virginia Challenge to improve his league-leading time. The performance also ranks 15th in the NCAA East Region and 38th nationally …
William & Mary – Andrew Lagattuta and Jacob Jones recorded personal-best times in the 1500m at the Virginia Challenge. Lagattuta clocked a time of 3:49.68, just ahead of Jones at 3:50.04. The duo ranks fourth and fifth, respectively, in the CAA this spring.
