Villanova's Benford Selected By Buffalo Bills In Sixth Round Of NFL Draft

RICHMOND, Va. (April 30, 2022) – Villanova cornerback
Christian Benford was selected by the Buffalo Bills in the sixth round (185
th overall) of the 2022 NFL Draft on Saturday afternoon.
Benford earned CAA Football all-conference honors three times in his career, making the first team in 2020 and 2021, and the third team in 2018 when he was also the league’s Defensive Rookie of the Year.
He garnered first-team All-America accolades from Stats Perform, HERO Sports,
Associated Press, Athlon Sports, the Walter Camp Foundation and
Phil Steele after a sensational senior season. Benford recorded 38 tackles, led the CAA with seven interceptions and topped all of FCS with 18 pass breakups. His play helped lead Villanova to a 10-3 overall record, a share of the CAA Football title and the quarterfinals of the FCS playoffs.
Benford is the first Villanova player to be chosen in the NFL Draft since 2017. CAA Football has had at least one player selected in 16 of the 17 NFL Drafts.
CAA Football is expected to have numerous players sign free agent contracts over the next few days.
