Four Teams Represented with Major Award Winners as CAA Announces Men’s Lacrosse Postseason Honors

RICHMOND, Va. (May 4, 2022) – The Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) has announced its men’s lacrosse postseason awards, with four teams represented among the major award winners as voted on by the league’s six head coaches.
Jack Mulcahy of Drexel was tabbed as the CAA Offensive Player of the Year, and Delaware’s Owen Grant was named CAA Defensive Player of the Year. Jack McKenna of Fairfield earned CAA Rookie of the Year accolades, while Towson head coach Shawn Nadelen was selected as the CAA Coach of the Year by his peers.
Mulcahy is the first Drexel student-athlete to be named a men’s lacrosse major award winner since 2014, when Ben McIntosh earned CAA Player of the Year honors. The senior midfielder leads the CAA in assists (25) and assists per game (1.92), recording a single-game league-high five assists on two occasions. Mulcahy has a team-best 44 points (19g, 25a) and recorded at least two points in 11 games this season, including a career-high nine points against Saint Joseph’s on March 8 to match the highest single-game total in the conference this season.
Last season, Grant became Delaware’s first-ever CAA Defensive Player of the Year and now is the first student-athlete to earn back-to-back CAA Defensive Player of the Year honors since 2013-14. The senior defenseman has a team-high 26 caused turnovers to rank second in the conference while ranking 12th nationally with 1.86 caused turnovers per game. Grant has recorded at least one caused turnover in every game this season and has had two or more in seven contests.
McKenna is the third CAA Rookie of the Year in Fairfield program history, becoming the first to claim the honors since Will Fox and Colin Burke collected the accolades in consecutive years in 2015 and 2016. The freshman attack leads the CAA with 43 goals this season and ranks 15th in the NCAA, averaging 3.07 goals per game. During his rookie campaign, McKenna scored at least two goals in every game and netted three or more seven times. He registered five goals on three occasions and had a season-high six points against Binghamton on March 14.
Nadelen earns the second CAA Coach of the Year honors during his tenure. He joins Tony Seaman with two honors, giving Towson four CAA Coach of the Year accolades in program history. Nadelen guided Towson to a share of the regular-season title as the Tigers captured their league-leading ninth CAA regular-season title. Additionally, he coached Towson to a league-high seven all-conference honorees this spring.
