Black College Player Of The Year Watch List

RICHMOND, Va. (August 17, 2022) – A pair of offensive standouts from the Hampton football team have been recognized on the 2022 Black College Football Player of the Year Watch List by the Black College Football Hall of Fame.

Pirates’ senior wide receiver Jadakis Bonds and sophomore running back Elijah Burris were selected to the Watch List.

Bonds earned first-team All-Big South honors in 2021 after making 54 receptions for 773 yards and six touchdowns. A 2022 preseason All-America pick, Bonds had a school-record 15 touchdown catches in 2019 and already owns HU’s all-time mark for TD receptions.

Burris was chosen as the Big South Offensive Freshman of the Year in 2021. He rushed for a team-high 640 yards and six touchdowns last season and also had 12 receptions for 78 yards.

The award is presented annually to the most outstanding player from a Historically Black College & University (HBCU). Four finalists will be announced after the season and the winner will be presented with the Deacon Jones Trophy at halftime of the 2023 HBCU Legacy Bowl on February 25, 2023. The game will be televised by the NFL Network.
