CAA Football Weekly Awards - Sept. 19

RICHMOND, Va. (September 19, 2022) – CAA Football has announced its weekly award winners for Week 3 of the 2022 season. Delaware graduate student quarterback Nolan Henderson received Offensive Player of the Week honors, while William & Mary sophomore linebacker John Pius was chosen as the Defensive Player of the Week. Towson senior kick returner D’Ago Hunter was named the Special Teams Player of the Week and UAlbany freshman quarterback Reese Poffenbarger was selected as the Rookie of the Week.
CAA Football Offensive Player of the Week
Nolan Henderson, Gr., QB, Delaware (Smyrna, Del./Smyrna)
Henderson completed 29-of-34 passes for a career-high 379 yards and a career-best four touchdowns to lead 9
th-ranked Delaware to a 42-21 victory at #17 Rhode Island. The Blue Hens’ quarterback threw for 315 yards and 4 TD’s in the first half, which was the 2
nd-most yards in a half in school history. He also ran for 27 yards as UD piled up 610 yards of total offense, which was its highest total since 2013.
CAA Football Defensive Player of the Week
John Pius, So., LB, William & Mary (Arlington, Va./Yorktown)
Pius recorded a team-best eight tackles, 4.0 tackles for loss and a career-high 3.5 sacks in William & Mary's 34-7 win at Lafayette. The sophomore linebacker led a Tribe defense that held the Leopards to 240 total yards, including just 48 in the second half, recorded six sacks and didn’t allow a point over the final 54 minutes. Pius leads FCS with 7.0 sacks and tops the CAA with 10.5 TFL’s.
CAA Football Special Teams Player of the Week
D’Ago Hunter, Sr., KR, Towson (Culpeper, Va./Eastern View)
Hunter returned a kickoff 96 yards for a touchdown in Towson’s game at Big 12 foe West Virginia. It was the first kickoff return for a TD for him and the Tigers since 2019 and tied the contest at 7-7. It was the 6
th-longest return by a FCS player this season. Hunter averaged 28.4 yards on eight returns at WVU.
CAA Football Rookie of the Week
Reese Poffenbarger, Fr., QB, UAlbany (Middletown, Md./Middletown)
Poffenbarger completed 25-of-40 passes for a school-record 412 yards and three touchdowns in UAlbany’s narrow 48-45 setback at Fordham. The 412 yards is the 5
th-most by a FCS quarterback this season and broke the previous UA mark of 398 yards. The freshman had scoring passes of 45 and 25 yards before firing a 7-yard TD strike that put the Great Danes ahead with 6:18 to play.
