RICHMOND, Va. (Jan. 12, 2023) – A back-and-forth battle on Long Island ended in Stony Brook starting its first CAA season 3-1, as the Seawolves outlasted Drexel in Thursday’s lone CAA Men’s Basketball game.
Stony Brook 67, Drexel 66
A game that featured eight ties and 10 lead changes saw Stony Brook move back in front for good with 9.9 seconds remaining on the final two of
Tyler Stephenson-Moore’s game-high 21 points as the Seawolves improved to 3-1 in their inaugural CAA campaign. Stony Brook was out to a 10-point lead midway through the first half before Drexel used an 18-2 run that spanned both halves to be even at 26 at the break and in front 36-28 after a
Justin Moore basket with 17:02 to play. Drexel led by nine before a 12-1 stretch from the hosts gave the Seawolves a 53-51 advantage with 5:35 remaining on
Kaine Roberts’ go-ahead layup and neither team would lead by more than two in a back-and-forth conclusion to the contest that featured four lead changes in the final 74 seconds. Stony Brook’s 35-24 advantage on the glass was fueled by
Frankie Policelli’s league-leading sixth double-double (16 points, 14 rebounds) as he and
Tanahj Pettway joined Stephenson-Moore in double figures in scoring.
Amari Williams scored a team-high 14 points for Drexel, which drops to 3-2 in the CAA.
