RICHMOND, Va. (Jan. 16, 2023) – Northeastern erased a 16-point deficit to win in the closing seconds, No. 18 Charleston further improved the nation’s best record, and CAA newcomer North Carolina A&T helped create a more crowded race behind the lead with its third straight victory Monday.

Victories by UNCW and Towson led to the night ending with five teams at two in the loss column: Hofstra (5-2), UNCW (5-2), Towson (4-2), Drexel (4-2), and Stony Brook (3-2), with Charleston (7-0) and North Carolina A&T (4-3) also over .500 in league play.

Northeastern 59, Delaware 58
Jahmyl Telfort’s foul-line jumper with five seconds remaining helped Northeastern (7-10, 3-3) pull off a comeback from 16 points down to win at Matthews Arena. The Huskies trailed by 10 with 13:11 to play before a 14-5 stretch cut the deficit to two on a Telfort three with 7:31 to play. Delaware (10-9, 2-4) rattled off the next six and eventually led by seven with 3:59 remaining before Northeastern closed the game on a 10-2 run that included five points from Joe Pridgen, a three from Coleman Stucke, and Telfort’s game-winner. Pridgen (14 points, 14 rebounds) and Chris Doherty (15 points, 13 rebounds) had double-doubles for Northeastern, which had 20 offensive rebounds as part of a 45-19 advantage on the glass. Jyáre Davis led all scorers with 17 points for Delaware.

UNCW 62, Elon 54
UNCW used an 11-0 run to bounce back from a second half deficit and get back in the win column. The Seahawks overcame a tough shooting night (33%) by making 20 of 25 shots at the free-throw line to improve to 15-5 overall and 5-2 in the CAA. A pair of Eric Van Der Heijden  threes helped jump start the UNCW offense with the second one, and third of the night, beginning the 11-0 run that turned a 39-36 deficit into a 47-39 advantage. The Seahawks would lead by at least four the rest of the way. Amari Kelly led UNCW with a double-double of 13 points and 14 rebounds. Elon (2-17, 0-6) was led by a game-high 20 points from Zac Ervin.

Nicolas Timberlake scored 15 of his 17 in the second half and Cam Holden added 13, including the 1,000th point of his career.
