#CAAHoops WBB Recap – Jan. 19 – William & Mary Earns Wire-to-Wire Victory Over Hampton

RICHMOND, Va. (Jan. 19, 2023) – Thursday night’s stand-alone CAA women’s basketball game was the 24th meeting all-time between Hampton and William & Mary, but the first as conference opponents. The Tribe defended its home court to win its second straight game. 
 
William & Mary 69, Hampton 54 | Box Score 
William & Mary scored the opening basket and led wire-to-wire, defeating Hampton 69-54 to win back-to-back games for the first time since winning its first two games this season. With the win, William & Mary improves to 3-0 in CAA play, including a 3-0 record at Kaplan Arena against conference opponents. Four Tribe players reached double figures as William & Mary shot 43.1 percent (24-57) from the floor, including eight makes from three-point range. Subsequently, the William & Mary defense held Hampton to 38.1 percent (24-63) shooting from the floor and one made three-pointer. Alexa Mikeska paced the Tribe with a career-best 16 points, adding six rebounds and four assists in the victory. Bre Bellamy tallied 15 points and eight rebounds, while Rebekah Frisby-Smith added 12 in the scoring column and nine boards. Sydney Wagner rounded out the double-digit scorers with 10. Jermany Mapp led the way for Hampton scoring 14 points on 6-of-9 shooting with six rebounds, three assists and two steals.
