RICHMOND, Va. (Jan. 26, 2023) – Stony Brook’s backcourt trio of Daishai Almond, Gigi Gonzalez and Annie Warren combined for 66 points as the Seawolves shot a season-high 55.6 percent (30-54), improving to 6-2 in CAA play and 4-0 at Island Federal Arena against league opponents on Thursday night.

Stony Brook defeated Charleston 80-76 in a highly competitive stand-alone women’s basketball game on Thursday night that featured eight lead changes and six ties, while neither team led by more than eight in the contest. After a frenetic pace through three quarters, a grind-it-out fourth propelled Stony Brook to victory as the Seawolves outscored the Cougars 17-12 in the final frame. Stony Brook held Charleston to 20.0 percent (3-15) shooting in the fourth quarter, including 10 straight missed field goals at one point. Almond, Gonzalez and Warren each scored at least 20 points, combining to shoot 70.3 percent (26-37) from the floor. Warren paced Stony Brook with a team-high 24 points on 10-of-16 shooting, followed by Gonzalez with 22 points on 9-of-10 shooting with a team-best six assists. Almond tallied a season-high 20 points and shot 7-of-11 from the field. Charleston also had a pair of 20-point scorers, led by Jaila Roberts with a season-high 23 points. Jada Logan added 22 points, eight rebounds and seven assists in the effort, while Anika McGarity rounded out the Cougars in double figures with 15 points on five made three-pointers.
