North Carolina A&T's Cooke Named FedEx Ground FCS National Special Teams Player Of The Week

RICHMOND, Va. (October 23, 2023) – North Carolina A&T redshirt senior kick returner/wide receiver Taymon Cooke was honored as the FedEx Ground FCS National Special Teams Player of the Week by Stats Perform.

Cooke returned a kickoff for a touchdown for the third time this season, racing 91 yards for a first-half score during North Carolina A&T’s 33-10 setback to Richmond. While also matching the school’s all-time record with a fourth kickoff return TD, Cooke added a 15-yard return, a reception and one carry while gaining 108 all-purpose yards. He ranks No. 1 in the FCS with a 41.5-yard average on 11 kickoff returns.

Six CAA Football players have received national awards from Stats Perform this season. New Hampshire’s Dylan Laube was the National Special Teams Player of the Week on Sept. 4, William & Mary’s Nate Lynn was the National Defensive Player of the Week on Sept. 18, New Hampshire’s Charles Briscoe III was the National Special Teams Player of the Week on Oct. 2, UAlbany’s Dylan Kelly was the National Defensive Player of the Week on Oct. 9 and Richmond quarterback Cam Coleman was the National Freshman of the Week on Oct. 9.

Along with the award for Cooke, Stats Perform recognized New Hampshire quarterback Max Brosmer, Monmouth wide receiver Dymere Miller and Maine quarterback Derek Robertson as National Offensive Player of the Week honorable mention selections, Delaware punt returner/wide receiver Jourdan Townsend as a National Special Teams Player of the Week honorable mention selection, and Stony Brook wide receiver Jayce Freeman and UAlbany running back Griffin Woodell as National Freshman of the Week honorable mention selections.
