RICHMOND, Va. (Oct. 5, 2023) – The first weekend of October in the CAA is full of pivotal battles at the top of league standings, while seasons begin for more of the league’s swimming & diving programs, and golf and cross country teams challenge themselves around the country again this weekend.

Men’s Soccer
Saturday’s five-game docket will feature three 1 p.m. starts with first-place Stony Brook visiting Charleston, Elon heading to Northeastern, and Delaware making the short trip to Drexel, which enters the weekend in a three-way tie for second place. William & Mary and UNCW will begin at 7 p.m. in Wilmington, as will a matchup between the other two teams tied for second, when Monmouth goes to No. 16 Hofstra. All five games can be seen on FloFC. | Weekend Schedule

Volleyball
Through three weeks of the CAA Volleyball schedule three teams are tied for first in the conference standings. Towson (5-1) entertains newcomer Campbell (4-2), who sits just one game back of the three-way tie at the top in its inaugural CAA season. The Tigers have won the last four CAA Championship titles, while the Camels won the Big South Championship in 2021 and the regular season crown last fall. Towson and Campbell last faced off in 1993 and have only ever played twice, but this weekend could start a new conference rivalry. Northeastern has won five of its first six in league play and looks to stay hot, hosting Delaware (3-3) on Saturday and Sunday. It will be no easy task, as the Blue Hens were picked second in the preseason poll after reaching the CAA Championship last season. The Huskies lead the all-time series by one game, 30-29, but Delaware has won three straight, including a season sweep in 2022. In addition, UNCW had a program-best 5-0 start in CAA play before dropping its first league match. The Seahawks have been one of the bigger surprises in CAA Volleyball and look to continue proving their worth on the road against Charleston (2-4). | Weekend Schedule

Field Hockey
Friday CAA Field Hockey consists of three conference contests. There is a pivotal matchup between Northeastern and Delaware (3 p.m., NESN/FloLive) in a rematch of last season’s second CAA Semifinal. The teams separated by half a game in the conference standings, could prove to be a crucial match as the four-team CAA Tournament field starts to take shape. The additional two matchups – Monmouth at Towson (3 p.m., FloLive) and Hofstra at William & Mary (5 p.m., FloLive) – feature unbeaten teams facing teams in search of their first CAA victory. The Hawks are 2-0 in CAA play for the first time in just their second season in the league, while the Tigers are looking to earn their first conference win under first-year coach Katie Gerzabek Salem. The Tribe is 3-0 in league play for the first time since 2019, and the Pride is trying to get in the win column after dropping its first two league contests by one goal. | Weekend Schedule

Swimming & Diving
It’s a busy weekend in the pool as many of the league’s teams get their seasons underway. Campbell hosts UNC Asheville, Delaware and Northeastern take part in the Rutgers Invitational, Towson welcomes La Salle and George Mason and William & Mary heads to Johns Hopkins. UNCW, which is coming off an impressive effort against South Carolina last week, looks to carry that momentum into a home meet against Tennessee.

Golf
In women’s tournaments, Campbell will play the Ruth’s Chris Tar Heel Invitational in Chapel Hill, Charleston is in Virginia Beach for the Evie Odom Invitational, North Carolina A&T stays in Greensboro and will be joined by Towson for the UNCG Collegiate, and UNCW travels to Illinois for the Illini Women’s Invitational.

On the men’s side, Charleston plays the Bank of Tennessee Collegiate in Johnson City, Delaware will be in Tampa for the USF Invitational, UNCW will be in Wilmington and joined by Elon for the Williams Cup, and Monmouth and Towson compete in the Bucknell Fall Invitational.

Cross Country
Five CAA Cross Country teams will toe the line at four competitions this weekend. Campbell and Charleston head to Charlotte for the Royals XC Challenge, Hofstra will participate in the METS Championships, North Carolina A&T competes in the Cedric Walker HBCU Cross Country Challenge, and Northeastern will race at Franklin Park in the New England Championships.
