Hofstra’s Carmichael and Goldthorp, UNCW’s Casas Selected in MLS SuperDraft

NEW YORK (Dec. 19, 2023) – Three CAA men’s soccer players – two from Hofstra and one from UNCW – were selected in the 2024 MLS SuperDraft.
Hofstra’s
Ryan Carmichael was taken in the first round (24
th overall) by Inter Miami CF, Hofstra’s
Eliot Goldthorp was chosen in the second round (45
th overall) by Vancouver Whitecaps FC, and UNCW’s
Pep Casas was selected in the third round (61
st overall) by Inter Miami CF.
Carmichael (2022) and Goldthorp (2023) are the CAA’s two most recent Players of the Year and have helped Hofstra to a consistent run of success in the league, with Goldthorp winning CAA titles in both years since transferring in and Carmichael in each of the last three. Carmichael ranked second in the nation in goals and points this year, while Goldthorp led Division I in assists.
Casas played two years at UNCW and was an All-CAA and All-Region player in 2023. The midfielder from Spain arrived in Wilmington after advancing to the NAIA Quarterfinals at Indiana Tech and tallied two goals and two assists in his time with the Seahawks.
The CAA has seen 13 players selected in the MLS SuperDraft since 2019 with at least one in each of the last six years.
