Charleston’s Andrews Earns USBWA National Player of the Week Honor
Hunter Peters
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (Dec. 27, 2023) – Charleston sophomore guard
Alexis Andrews was selected as one of five National Players of the Week by the United States Basketball Writers Association (USBWA) on Wednesday.
The honor comes following CAA Player of the Week accolades on Tuesday. Andrews averaged 23.5 points per game and shot 57.1 percent (12-21) from three-point range while adding 6.0 rebounds per contest in a 2-0 week for the Cougars.
The sophomore had a career day against South Carolina State with 32 points, shooting 10-of-17 from the floor, including 9-of-13 from beyond the arc. All three were personal-best marks for Andrews, who added eight rebounds. She followed the performance by scoring 15 points with four rebounds and two steals, helping CofC defeat Radford.
Andrews is the first National Player of the Week for CAA Women’s Basketball this year; however, it marks the third straight season the conference has received a National weekly award.
For the 2023-24 season, the USBWA expanded its National Player of the Week program, which is affiliated with the Ann Meyers Drysdale award.
