#CAAHoops WBB Recap – Feb. 10 – William & Mary Wins in OT as Tribe, Drexel and Delaware Build Winning Streaks

RICHMOND, Va. (Feb. 10, 2023) – William & Mary won on the road in overtime to secure its third straight victory, while Delaware and Drexel won big at home on Friday night. The Dragons extended their winning streak to five games, and the Blue Hens recorded back-to-back victories. Drexel is alone in first place, a full game ahead of N.C. A&T in second, while William & Mary moved into third place following its sixth win in the past seven tries.
William & Mary 84, Elon 74 (OT) | Box Score
William & Mary outlasted Elon in overtime 84-74 to win its third straight game. The Tribe improves to 3-0 in overtime contests this season, the best in the conference. William & Mary outscored Elon 15-5 in the extra frame, including a 12-0 run over the final 2:35 to emerge victoriously. After the Phoenix scored five straight points, taking a two-point lead, the Tribe responded with a three-pointer to take the lead right back, which sparked the final run. William & Mary was down after the first 23-20 but outscored Elon 22-10 in the second to take a nine-point lead into the break. The Phoenix trimmed the deficit to four at the end of the third and scored the final four points in regulation to force overtime. Riley Casey scored a game-high 30 points, including eight in the overtime period. It marks the fifth 30-point performance for Casey this season, who added seven assists and three rebounds in the victory. Rebekah Frisby-Smith and Kayla Rolph tallied new career highs for the Tribe with 18 and 13 points, respectively, while Caitlin Wingertzahn was also in double figures with 11. Lenaejha Evans paced Elon with 23 points and added nine rebounds. Raven Preston nearly tallied a triple-double but had to settle for her sixth double-double this year with 13 points, 14 rebounds and eight assists.
Drexel 86, Charleston 61 | Box Score
Drexel matched a season-high with 86 points, defeating Charleston by 25 to win its fifth consecutive contest. The Cougars scored the opening basket and led for 27 seconds before the Dragons turned up the heat and cruised to a Friday night victory. Drexel scored over 20 points in each of the first three quarters, building a 70-48 advantage before closing it out in the fourth, outscoring Charleston in the final frame as well. Kylie Lavelle and Keishana Washington combined to score 49 points for the Dragons. Lavelle tallied 28 points on 12-of-21 shooting. It marks her second-highest scoring output this season and fourth game with 20 or more during her freshman campaign. Washington added 21 points with a career-high 11 assists for her second double-double this season and grabbed seven rebounds, flirting with a triple-double. Jada Logan paced Charleston with 19 points and seven rebounds. Drexel shot 49.2 percent (32-65) on the night, recording 24 assists on 32 made field goals and limited Charleston to 35.5 percent (22-62) shooting.
Delaware 83, UNCW 47 | Box Score
Five Blue Hens scored in double figures to lead Delaware to a dominant 83-47 win over UNCW on Friday night. Delaware took the lead 4-3 2:28 into the contest and never trailed the rest of the way. The Blue Hens outscored UNCW in all four quarters, including 46-25 in the second and third frames. Delaware shot 47.2 percent (34-72) from the field and held UNCW to a season-low 24.2 percent (15-62) shooting. Makayla Pippin paced Delaware with a career-high 25 points and 10 rebounds for her fifth double-double this season. Michelle Ojo, Nakiya Mays-Prince and Rebecca Demeke also reached double figures with 14, 11 and 10 points, respectively. Additionally, Tara Cousins added 11 points, seven rebounds and six assists for the Blue Hens. Carrie Gross tallied 15 points to lead UNCW and surpassed 1,000 career points in the effort. Evan Miller recorded a career-best 13 points with six rebounds to round out the Seahawks in double figures.
