INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (March 12, 2023) – Fresh off winning the CAA Women’s Basketball Championship in its inaugural season, Monmouth will be the 16th seed in the Greenville 2 Region and face Tennessee Tech in the First Four on Thursday.
The First Four game will take place at Assembly Hall in Bloomington, Ind. on the campus of Indiana University, with the winner advancing to face top-seeded Indiana on Saturday. Time and TV information will be announced at a later time.
Towson (21-11) and Drexel (21-9) will also continue onto postseason play, earing bids to the WNIT. The Tigers and Dragons earned a share of the CAA regular season title, the second straight for Drexel and first in program history for Towson. Drexel is making its ninth straight appearance in the postseason, while Towson has earned back-to-back WNIT berths for the first time ever.
Monmouth (18-15) is in the big dance for the first time in 40 years after making history by winning four games in four days to claim the CAA crown. The Hawks' first NCAA Tournament appearance came in 1983.
The Hawks not only won the institution’s first CAA Title across all sports but became the lowest seed in tournament history to win the women’s basketball championship. Monmouth put together an impressive week, defeating the top three seeds and CAA co-regular season championship en route to its title, culminating with an 80-55 victory over top-seeded Towson on Sunday.
Tennessee Tech (22-9) won the Ohio Valley Conference tournament and earned an automatic qualifying bid to the NCAA Tournament.
