No. 7 Monmouth Rolls to 69-54 Win Over No. 10 Charleston to Advance to CAA Championship Quarterfinals

TOWSON, Md. (March 9, 2023)
– No.7 Monmouth used a fast start and the deep ball to earn a wire-to-wire victory over No. 10 Charleston 69-54 in the second round of the CAA Women’s Basketball Championship.
 
Monmouth, which won its CAA Tournament debut, improves to 15-15 this year and will face third-seeded Drexel in the CAA Quarterfinals on Friday at 5 p.m. Charleston concludes the year 11-18.
 
The Hawks knocked down nine three-pointers while holding Charleston to two makes from behind the arc and outrebounded the Cougars 48-30 in the game.
 
Kaci Donovan and Bri Tinsley each scored 14 points to lead Monmouth, accounting for seven of the Hawks’ trifectas. Tinsley also recorded a team-high four assists, and Ariana Vanderhoop joined the duo in double figures with 10 points and added eight rebounds.
 
Monmouth hit two three-pointers in its first three possessions, sparking a 15-2 run over the first 7:32 in the game, and never looked back. The Hawks shot 64.3 percent (9-14) in the opening stanza and held Charleston to 23.1 percent (3-13) shooting to open a 27-10 lead after one.  
 
Charleston cut the deficit to 11 at halftime, outscoring Monmouth 15-9 in the second, but the third quarter was much like the first. The Hawks hit three trifectas and held Charleston scoreless for the first 3:59 in the second half to open a 22-point lead (47-25). 
 
Jada Logan paced Charleston with a game-high 28 points and grabbed six rebounds. Logan shot 12-of-19 from the floor for her 11th game with 20 or more this season.
