RICHMOND, Va. (April 17, 2023) – The CAA has announced its 10th softball weekly awards for the 2023 season. Towson junior infielder Cori Jones was named CAA Player of the Week, and Delaware senior right-hander Emily Winburn continued her torrid stretch, collecting CAA Pitcher of the Week honors. In addition, Hofstra’s Alanna Morse and Towson’s Kristin Toland shared CAA Rookie of the Week accolades.
 
PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Cori Jones, Towson
Junior | Infield | Morrisville, Pa. / Conwell-Egan Catholic
Jones batted .600 (6-10) and posted a .733 on-base percentage, reaching safely in all four games during a perfect week for Towson. The junior infielder tallied eight RBIs and scored four runs while drawing four walks, leading the Tigers to a 4-0 week. On Tuesday, she went 2-for-2 with a walk and double, driving in four runs and scoring two in a win over UMBC. Over Towson’s weekend sweep of North Carolina A&T, Jones had a .700 on-base percentage, batting .500 (4-8) with three walks, two doubles, four RBIs and four runs scored. 
  
PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Emily Winburn, Delaware 
Senior | Fort Lauderdale, Fla. / Chaminade Madonna   
Winburn went 2-0 in the circle, throwing 12.0 innings without allowing a run and tallied eight punchouts. The senior right-hander opened the weekend series against Drexel with 5.0 shutout innings, scattering three hits and picking up five strikeouts in an 8-0 win. Winburn was back in the circle for the rubber match, securing Delaware’s fourth straight CAA series win with a complete game shutout. She allowed just three base runners, including two hits, and had three strikeouts, limiting the opposition to a .080 batting average.  
  
CO-ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Alanna Morse, Hofstra 
Freshman | Third Base | North Bellmore, N.Y. / Mepham
Morse helped Hofstra to a 4-0 week, including a CAA series sweep, batting .333 (4-12) with a team-high four runs scored and three RBIs. All four hits came in league play, including three for extra bases, as Morse hit .400 in the weekend series against Hampton. The freshman third baseman opened the series going 2-for-4 with a double, two RBIs and two runs scored in an 8-2 win. In the series finale, Morse was 2-for-3 with two doubles, two runs scored, and an RBI, helping the Pride clinch the series sweep with an 11-1 victory.   
 
CO-ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Kristin Toland, Towson
R-Freshman | Infield | Sparrows Point, Md. / Eastern Tech
Toland batted .500 (6-12) with three runs scored and one RBI, helping Towson to a 4-0 week and CAA series sweep. The freshman infielder hit safely in three games, including two multi-hit efforts. She opened the week by going 2-for-4 in a win over UMBC, scoring two runs. In game two of the series versus North Carolina A&T, Toland had the best performance of her season. She went 3-for-4 at the plate with a solo home run, tallying one RBI and one run scored.
