CAA Softball Weekly Awards – April 24

RICHMOND, Va. (April 24, 2023) – The CAA has announced its 11
th softball weekly awards for the 2023 season. Stony Brook junior infielder Ashley Jacobson named CAA Player of the Week. Her teammate, Mia Haynes, shared CAA Pitcher of the Week honors with Kayla Douglas from North Carolina A&T. Delaware freshman outfielder Katie Scheivert collected her league-leading third CAA Rookie of the Week accolade this spring.
PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Ashley Jacobson, Stony Brook
Junior | Infield | Snohomish, Wash. / Glacier Peak
Jacobson batted .667 (8-12) and posted a .692 on-base percentage, slugging 1.400 with three home runs, seven RBIs and six runs scored throughout the week. The junior infielder extended her hitting streak to seven games, hitting safely in all four during a 3-1 week for Stony Brook, including three multi-hit performances. Jacobson homered in three contests, driving in at least one run in three games and scoring at least one run in all four. Over the weekend, she went 6-for-9 at the plate with two long balls, five RBIs, and five runs scored in a CAA series win.
CO-PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Kayla Douglas, North Carolina A&T
Senior | Charlotte, N.C. / Independence
Douglas was 2-0 in the circle, pitching 8.1 innings of relief without giving up an earned run to help North Carolina A&T to its first-ever CAA series sweep. In game one of the series, Douglas scattered three hits in 3.1 innings without surrounding an earned run, allowing the Aggies to rally from a 6-0 deficit to win 8-6. The senior right-handed returned in the series finale, tossing 5.0 innings of shutout ball with four strikeouts, and A&T rallied again, erasing a 2-0 deficit this time to win 7-2, securing the series sweep.
CO-PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Mia Haynes, Stony Brook
Junior | Manassas, Va. / Lake Braddock HS
Haynes went 2-0 in the circle, throwing 12.0 shutout innings with five strikeouts to lead Stony Brook to a CAA series sweep. In the second game against Hampton, the junior right-hander scattered six hits across 5.0 innings and tallied up two punchouts in an 8-0 win. In the rubber match, Haynes was back in the circle and picked up where she left off, allowing two hits in 5.0 innings with two strikeouts in a 9-0 victory to clinch the series win.
ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Katie Scheivert, Delaware
Freshman | Outfield | Leesburg, Va. / Tuscarora
Scheivert helped Delaware to a 3-1 week and a fifth straight CAA series win, hitting .455 (5-11) with four RBIs and two runs scored. The freshman outfielder hit safely in three games, with a pair of multi-hit efforts. Scheivert opened the week with a 2-for-3 performance, recording two RBIs and two runs in a non-conference win over Delaware State. She concluded the weekend with hits in back-to-back games, helping the Blue Hens to a series win over Towson. In the rubber match, Scheivert went 2-for-3 at the plate and drove in two of Delaware’s three runs.
